The Delta Variant: How You Should Respond

The spread of the highly contagious Delta variant of Covid-19 is causing infections and hospitalizations to rise again in the United States, even in communities with high vaccination rates. Hopes that the pandemic would soon fade away have been dimmed by the spread of the variant, which appears to evade at least some of the immunity conferred by past infection or vaccination. And with low global vaccination rates, there are likely to be new variants that could be even more threatening. Consequently, we can expect sporadic cases and periodic outbreaks of Covid-19 in the months and years ahead. Given this prospect, how should you respond to this variant and keep yourself safe? Here are some measures you can apply.

 1 Get Vaccinated

The CDC recommends that people who aren’t vaccinated should get the COVID-19 vaccine to protect themselves from the risk of illness from COVID-19, including the Delta variant. In the event that someone who is vaccinated gets COVID-19, the vaccines protect against the severity of illness, which helps to prevent hospitalization and death.

2 Wear Masks

Many health experts across the country are wearing masks themselves even though they’re fully vaccinated against COVID-19. They’re also advising vaccinated people to avoid large gatherings and mask up indoors where the vaccination status of other people is unknown.

3 Pay Attention to Personal Hygiene

If you are outside, stay 6 feet away from people who aren’t part of your household. Wash your hands frequently for using hand sanitizer when soap and water aren’t available. Steer clear of crowded indoor spaces, including poorly ventilated ones.

4 Reduce Exposure through Staying at home

Staying at home and reducing direct contact with others can be a very effective way to reduce the risk of getting infected. Working from home could save the time and money on commute, it can reduce distractions as well. And you do deserve a good setup for long term use.
